The store was founded in 2015 by a collective of three Dallas writers who pooled their resources to create the bookstore they wished existed in their city, one that centered independent publishers, diverse voices, and the kind of boundary-pushing fiction and nonfiction that doesn't always find shelf space in larger stores. The Texas authors section is curated with an emphasis on writers who complicate the state's stereotypes, showcasing the full range of Texan identity from border towns to bayous to big-city high-rises. The music section reflects Dallas's deep musical roots, with books on everything from Blind Lemon Jefferson to the city's thriving hip-hop scene. The adjacent beer garden hosts evening events where authors read to crowds sipping local craft brews under string lights, creating an atmosphere that feels more like a house party than a literary event.
