Puget Sound Pages occupies a stunning renovated warehouse on Broadway in downtown Tacoma, where floor-to-ceiling windows flood the space with the gray-silver light that defines the South Sound. The store was founded in 2005 as part of Tacoma's cultural revival, and it has become an anchor of the city's growing arts district. The maritime history section is the pride of the collection, featuring everything from technical sailing manuals to lyrical accounts of life on Puget Sound's commercial fishing boats. The art book selection focuses heavily on glass art, reflecting Tacoma's status as a center of the studio glass movement, with an entire shelf devoted to Dale Chihuly and his contemporaries. Monthly exhibitions on the store's gallery wall feature work by local photographers and printmakers, and the upstairs event space hosts readings, lectures, and film screenings throughout the year.
