Pages Bookshop

Pages Bookshop opened on Grand River Avenue in 2019 and immediately became a cornerstone of Detroit's Grandmont-Rosedale neighborhood and the city's broader literary renaissance. Founded by poet and community organizer Alicia Thompson, the store centers Black voices, stories, and experiences while welcoming readers of all backgrounds. The poetry section is exceptionally deep, reflecting Detroit's vibrant spoken-word and literary poetry traditions. The children's books are chosen with an emphasis on representation, ensuring young Detroiters see themselves in the stories they read. The store regularly hosts community conversations that go beyond traditional author events, addressing topics from neighborhood development to creative entrepreneurship. Pages has become a model for what a bookstore can mean to a community rebuilding and reimagining itself.
