Bison Books anchors downtown Stillwater with the kind of genuine warmth and character that defines Oklahoma's small-town spirit. Founded in 2005 by a retired OSU animal science professor and her rancher husband, the store reflects the community's deep ties to agriculture, rodeo culture, and the Western way of life. The Western heritage section features everything from Louis L'Amour paperbacks to scholarly works on cattle ranching and the Dust Bowl, while the children's corner is stocked with picture books about farm life, horses, and the Oklahoma prairie. The in-store cafe serves pecan pie and chicory coffee, and the worn leather armchairs by the front window are perpetually occupied by regulars.
